Creating Discount codes or Coupons

Discount codes let you offer a percentage discount on your entire Ko-fi Shop, specific Shop categories, or Commissions.

Share your discount link or code with your fans or offer discounts as a perk for joining one of your Membership Tiers.

Anyone who clicks your discount link or uses your code will have the discount applied to relevant shop items or your entire commissions menu. Tier members who have discounts as a perk will have the discount automatically applied to relevant items and commissions while logged in.

Create a Discount code

1. Navigate to More > Discount and click ”Add Discount”.

2. Choose who gets the discount, either by link & code, monthly supporter, or specific tier.

3. Select whether the discount is for shop items or commissions. You can select individual shop categories too.

4. Set your discount:

   Your Code can include numbers, letters, a period or a hyphen and is automatically converted into uppercase.

   Percentage Discount must be set as a whole number between 1 to 99 (don't include the % symbol).

   Percentages are rounded to the nearest currency unit, but will not allow for an item to become totally free. For example, if you have a 99% discount for an item that costs $0.02, the discount of 99% would be $0.01.

   Expiry Date is determined by your time zone. If you set up your discount in the UK to expire on October 31st 2025, it will be live until 23:59 GMT of that day, for US Supporters, the equal time would be October 31st 2025 at 19:59 CST.

5. Click "Create" to activate the discount. You can edit or delete it later.

How supporters can use your discount

Supporters can either use your discount via direct link or by inputting a code at checkout.

Ways to share a Discount code:

Copy your discount link or code and add it to:

📢 A social post

📧 An announcement in your newsletter

🔒 Adding a post with the code - e.g. just for members

📌 Pin a post with details of your discounts to your page

Tap the X (Twitter) icon to share your discount code directly to X. Ko-fi includes an image like this when you share.

How discounts work for Monthly Supporters & Subscribers

You can set up a discount for all monthly supporters or as a benefit for joining certain tiers.

Members don't have to do anything, discounts are auto-applied to any relevant item or commission on offer as long as they are logged in.

What if a supporter has multiple Discount codes?

You can offer multiple discounts, but only one discount will apply per order.

1. If a discount is claimed by direct link, this discount will cancel all other eligible discounts.
2. For Members or Monthly Supporters with multiple discounts, the most recent discount will apply unless a discount link is used.
3. If a discount code is used or entered at checkout, this will not apply if you are logged in as a Member with a tier-based discount or by using a direct discount link .

How can I end a Discount code?

If you want to end a discount early or stop a discount, use the trashcan icon to delete it. When you confirm, the discount will be deleted. When the discount is deleted it will no longer work and when used by a buyer will display “Sorry, that discount code is not recognized.”

Can I offer a discount for a single item?

Yes, you can offer a discount for a single item by following these steps:

1. When listing your item in shop, create a category for the product you want to discount.

   

2. Select that shop category when creating your Discount Code.

   

3. When the link or code is used, it will only apply to that item.

How discounts work with “Pay what you want” products

You can let a supporter choose what price they would like to pay when adding an item in your shop or commissions. If the price the supporter chooses to pay is more than the minimum price, the discount code will not apply. The discount will only apply if the supporter chooses to pay the minimum price.

Paying more than the minimum of £10 to £20, will not discount the item when using discount code “CAKE20”.

Paying the minimum £10 will discount the item to £8 with discount code “CAKE20”.
