Adding a Ko-fi Button to your WordPress site or blog

You'll need a WordPress Business account for sites on wordpress.com to install plugins. If you are using the personal plan, you can simply download an image from our brand assets or create your own. Then add your Ko-fi link to it! Like our button below.

Step 1: Install the Ko-fi Plugin 📥
To install the plugin, you'll need a WP Business account for sites on wordpress.com, or hosting with a third-party service such as Hostgator, GoDaddy, Bluehost, among thousands of others.
- Go to your WordPress dashboard, click on 'Plugins'
- Click 'Add New' and type 'Ko-fi' into the search bar
- When you see the Ko-fi plugin, click 'Install Now', then 'Activate'
Step 2: Add your Page Name to settings 🌐
Now that you've got the plugin it's time to set it up, so that WordPress knows where to direct your readers.
- Go to 'Settings' on your WordPress dashboard, then 'Ko-fi Settings'
- In 'Page Name or ID', enter your Ko-fi username, for example, ko-fi.com/yourusername
- Press "Save Changes" below
Step 3: Decide Where to Display Your Button 📍
Choose where it should live on your site and make sure your button fits with your content and theme.
🎈 As a floating button on your site
The floating button will always be visible as visitors browse your site. When clicked, it brings up your donation panel for your readers to easily support you without leaving your site.
Change the text and appearance of your button in Settings > Ko-fi Settings
- In ‘Default Display’ choose if the button should default to showing on all pages or no pages. You can then override the setting on individual pages
- Update your button text to reflect the action you'd like visitors to take, such as 'Support My Page' or 'Join My Membership'
- Choose your Button Colour to fit your WordPress theme
Remember to press "Save Changes" below.
Can I choose which posts and pages not to display my Ko-fi button?
Yes, you can choose whether your Ko-fi button appears in specific pages or posts:
- Head to Dashboard and then either Posts or Pages
- Find the post or page you want to edit
- Click Settings on the top right > Choose the Page Tab
- Find the Ko-fi option at the bottom, hide or show your Ko-fi link
🧩 As an animated button in a widget area which links to your page
Widget areas and sidebars, like footers on a page, are perfect spots to add Ko-fi widgets.
When a reader clicks the 'Ko-fi Button' in a widget area, it takes them to your Ko-fi page.
Add a widget by heading to 'Appearance' > 'Widgets', selecting your preferred area (like the footer), and pick 'Ko-fi Button'.
Customize your button by clicking on the widget for available options. Change it to fit your theme and content.
- Add your Page Name, for example ko-fi.com/yourusername
- Update your button text to reflect the action you'd like visitors to take, such as 'Support My Page' or 'Join My Membership'
- Choose your Button Colour to fit your WordPress theme
- Select a Title and Description as a prompt to your link
- Choose where you want your link to go using Button Alignment
🖼️ As a donation panel in a widget area
Like before, Widget areas and sidebars, like footers on a page, are perfect spots to add Ko-fi widgets.
The 'Ko-fi Donation Panel' in a widget area is always visible. Use this widget to allow readers to support easily without leaving the post they are reading or your site.
Add a widget by heading to 'Appearance' > 'Widgets', selecting your preferred area (like the sidebar), and pick 'Ko-fi Donation Panel'.
Customize your Donation Panel by clicking on the widget for available options. If you want to change the text on the panel itself, head to your Payment Page.
- Select a Title that goes above your Donation Panel
- Add your Page Name, for example ko-fi.com/yourusername
🔘 As a shortcode, which adds an animated button on any post or page
For your button to appear, just add '[kofi]' as a shortcode in the text of your post or page. When clicked, it directs to your ko-fi page. Encourage your readers to commission you, join your membership tiers, donate and much more.
It's perfect to end a post and get support from your readers.
