How to help a supporter cancel their membership đź’ł

If a supporter wants to stop their membership to you, they can do it anytime from their own Ko-fi account.

You can share the steps below to guide them through it.

 

How supporters can cancel their memberships:

Supporters can cancel their memberships in just a few steps:

  1. Visit their Account Settings
  2. Scroll to “Subscriptions”
  3. Click the three dots next to the subscription they want to stop
  4. Choose “Don't Renew”

Their membership status will change to “cancelled”. They can still enjoy access to content and benefits until their membership period ends.

What if a supporter can’t see their membership?

If they have trouble spotting their membership on Ko-fi, here’s a quick guide to help:

  1. Confirm they’re logged in first: Make sure they are logged in to the correct account.
  2. Check their email: They might have used a different email to sign up. Advise them to quickly search their email inboxes for "Ko-fi" to find the welcome email that says, "You joined [the tier name]."

  3. Failed Payment: If they have looked through their account and emails but still can't find their confirmation email, their payment might have failed.

They can reach out to the Support team here. If they are reaching out about a membership they cannot see, please have them include your Ko-fi page (ko-fi.com/handle), the membership tier they joined, when they paid, and the amount paid.

 

What if they don't have a Ko-fi account?

They’ll need an account to manage their memberships through Ko-fi. Just follow the Manage Subscription link in the email they received, and they’ll be guided through the sign-up process.

If their email link isn’t working anymore, they can try to reset their password for the email account they want to access, and this will create their account. You can send them our help article to get it sorted.

For PayPal subscriptions, supporters can manage their membership directly within PayPal without having to make a Ko-fi account.

A member can follow these steps to cancel a subscription via PayPal.

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Click Payments.
  3. Select Automatic payments.
  4. Select the merchant. Any Ko-fi subscriptions will show up under "Ko-fi". Check the Description to confirm the creator.
  5. Cancel the automatic payment.

FAQ

Why was my supporter’s membership cancelled?

A membership can be cancelled by you or the supporter. If it wasn’t cancelled by either of you, it was likely cancelled due to multiple failed payments.

While a supporter can’t reactivate a cancelled membership, they can subscribe again from your Ko-fi page.

My supporter’s membership is overdue
If their membership is overdue and they cancel it, it will end right away.
My supporter has been charged twice for the same membership
This might be a pending charge, which usually clears up in about 5 days.
My supporter would like a refund

As all payments are between you and the supporter, it’s up to you to issue a refund.

Can a supporter reactivate their membership?

Once a membership is cancelled, it can't be reactivated. To continue supporting you, they’ll need to sign up again on your page.

If the tier is full, you can open a slot for them to rejoin via your Membership settings.
