How do supporters join my Discord server?

You can offer Discord roles as a reward for one-time support or joining your membership. These roles can unlock exclusive channels or give extra privileges like badges in your Discord server.

  Note

To offer Discord rewards to your supporters, you'll need to be a Contributor. Learn more about contributor status here. If you're not already a Contributor, you'll be prompted to opt in when add your Discord server or adjust your roles.

What is Discord?

Discord is a platform where friends and communities chat and hang out. It has voice, text, and video channels organized in servers by topic, so it’s easy to build spaces around your work and interests.

How your supporters claim a Discord role

After you’ve set up Discord rewards and someone supports you, they can claim the role directly from your Ko-fi page.

  1. Supporter visits your page. Supporters can go directly to your Ko-fi page (e.g. ko-fi.com/yourname). If they’re not sure where to find it, they can check their email receipt or visit Payments & Orders.
  2. In the green box, they’ll click ‘Connect to Discord & Claim’. To do this, they'll need to be logged in with the email they used to support you. If they paid as a guest, they’ll need to link that payment to a Ko-fi account. You can find more info below.

  3. They’ll sign in to Discord and authorize the Ko-fi Bot to assign roles.

  4. The role will then be applied in Discord and also shown under Discord Benefits when they visit your Ko-fi page.

Supporter can’t see the “Connect to Discord and Claim” button

Ask them to first check that their Discord account is connected to Ko-fi.

To claim a role, their payment needs to be linked to a Ko-fi account. They also need to be logged into that same account.

They can check the Payment & Orders to find their payment to you.

If they supported you as a guest within the last 72 hours, they should have received an email titled Confirm your guest membership purchase. This email has a button to link the payment to an existing Ko-fi account or to create a new one.

If it’s been more than 72 hours or the link doesn’t work, they can raise a support ticket and we’ll help connect the payment.

Role appears on your page but isn’t showing in Discord

Sometimes this happens if the Ko-fi Bot can’t assign roles or another bot in your server is interfering with its permissions.

Ask the supporter to go to their Discord tab on Ko-fi, press the "Connected" button, and re-authorize the Ko-fi Bot.

If that doesn’t fix the issue, check out our troubleshooting steps here to see if you can solve the issue.

If you're unable to help, submit a support ticket with the specific supporter’s details and our team will look into it!

How supporters can disconnect their Discord account from Ko-fi

They can visit their Ko-fi Discord tab, then press the "Connected" button to disconnect.

This removes the Ko-fi Bot’s permission to update their roles but won’t remove any roles already assigned in your Discord server.

How supporters can remove Ko-fi Bot assigned roles

The Ko-fi Bot automatically assigns and removes roles based on payment status.

To remove a role, supporters can:

  • Disconnect their Discord account from Ko-fi in their Discord settings
  • Leave the server on Discord
  • Wait for their membership to end

Once their membership expires, Ko-fi Bot will remove the role automatically.
