How can a member change their membership?

If they’re already supporting a creator with a monthly donation or as a member of a tier, here's how a member can switch tiers, update their donation, or change their payment card.

Switch tiers

If a member is part of a tier and wants to change to a different tier, they will need to:

  1. Log in to their Ko-fi account
  2. Head to the creator's membership page
  3. Click Join on the new tier they want.

Once a member joins:

  • They'll pay for the new tier upfront.
  • Their current tier will stop charging at the end of this billing cycle.
  • Their new tier will start around the same renewal date.

What happens next?

  • Upgraded? Your member will enjoy immediate access to extra perks.
  • Downgraded? Your member will keep their current perks until the end of their billing date.

A member won’t receive money back from their previous membership, but it's up to the creator if they want to offer a refund. They can message the creator directly to request this.

How can a member manage their membership?

Here's how they can tweak their membership settings, from updating their payment card to changing their pledge.

  1. Ask them to log into the Ko-fi account they used to become a member.
  2. Go to More > Account & Billing.
  3. Find the Subscriptions section, find the relevant subscription and click the three dots for more options.

Updating their card

A member will be prompted to add their new payment card.

  • The member’s next payment will come from this card.
  • Switching cards takes a few days, so if their renewal is soon, the old card might still get charged.

  Note

No Update Card option? Their payment might be going through PayPal.

To update their payment method with PayPal, they can follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Click Payments.
  3. Select Automatic payments.
  4. Select the merchant.
  5. Select your current payment method.
  6. Select a new payment method or click Link a new card or bank.
  7. Click Save.

  Note

Right now, a member can't switch between PayPal and direct card payments. They will need to cancel and rejoin using the payment method they want to use.

 

Update your pledge amount

Supporters can choose any amount higher than the minimum. Once updated, their new pledge will change when their next subscription payment is due.
