Offering supporter-only content

Offering your fans exclusive content or perks encourages them to become supporters—it's also one of the biggest reasons people join a monthly membership.

On Ko-fi, you’re not limited in the types of rewards you can offer supporters. Share exclusive posts, digital files, art commissions, Discord roles, physical items, or even discount codes. There’s so many fun ways to get your fans excited to support you! 😊

 

How to add supporter-only posts

  1. On your page choose Create > Post Something

  2. Select a post type: Image, Blog Post, Video or Audio

  3. Add your content to the post

  4. In the Audience drop-down, select who should be able to see the content.

  5. Tap the Screenshot 2023-11-15 at 16.42.33.png to share your post with fans. Sharing directly from Ko-fi is an easy way to remind your audience of what they get for supporting you.

Let’s take a closer look at these audience options:

  • Everyone (Public): Anyone who visits your Ko-fi page can see this.
  • All Supporters (One-off & Monthly): If someone gave you any support in the last month or is a monthly member, they can see this. Doesn't matter how much they gave.
  • Monthly Members (Members): Only people who support you every month can see this. One-time supporters can't.

If you've set up Membership Tiers, you'll see more options:

  • 'Entry level' and up: If you're a member of any of the three tiers, you can see this. Monthly or one-time supporters can't.
  • 'Mid-level' and up: You need to be in either the Mid-level or High Rollin tiers to see this. Everyone else can't.
  • 'High Rollin' only: Only High Rollin tier members get to see this. No one else. 😊

 

Publishing your exclusive posts

When someone visits your Ko-fi page they’ll see your exclusive content in your page feed, your Posts, and your Gallery tabs. Only supporters of the right level will be able to unlock them.

How to add supporter-only shop or commission items

To pick who can buy or request your Shop or Commission items, head to 'Who can buy/request this item' when you're editing the item. From there you can make some items exclusive to members of specific tiers or all monthly supporters.

Shop items can be digital or physical. You can also price them as free so they become a perk of being part of your Membership.

Commissions can't be totally free right now, but you can set a special price just for your supporters. 😊

Everyone can see the exclusive items, but there will be a badge on them to show they're just for members. If someone checks out your item but isn't a member yet, we'll nudge them to join so they can unlock it.

More perks: let buyers unlock supporter-only content

As another neat way to reward your supporters you can allow them to access supporter-only content once they’ve spent a certain amount with you.

Just go to your Shop settings and set a minimum amount. Once the supporter has spent that amount or over, they'll automatically gain access to exclusive content (any content with the audience view “All Supporters”).

Use this as an extra nudge to help convince supporters to purchase from your shop.

How can I add a discount code just for supporters?
Just like choosing the audience elsewhere, when you create a discount code you can make it exclusive to monthly supporters or specific tiers. You can learn more here!
Can I let one-time supporters see exclusive posts?
Sure, from the Audience menu, just choose All Supporters (one-off or monthly). Anyone who supports you with a one-off donation will get access to those posts and images for 30 days from the date they support you. After 30 days those posts will be locked again. Your members who pay you monthly will always be able to see these posts.
My supporter can’t see exclusive content, what should I tell them?
If Members cannot see your locked content, they might need a Ko-fi account. Advise they click the link in their Ko-fi email they received when they paid or you can direct them to this step-by-step guide.
What happens if I cancel Ko-fi Gold?
As long as you still have Memberships turned on you can still create and manage Supporter-only content. There will be a 5% platform fee charged for these payments once your Gold subscription has ended.
Does this mean I have to publish to a schedule?
Absolutely not - there’s no commitment to publish content to any schedule.
Will supporters gain access to all previously posted content when they support?
Yes, once the payment from a supporter clears into your account, they’ll have access to all of the content within the tier they’ve joined and all content available on lower-priced tiers too.
